Cat / Unknown - Answered 1438 days ago
We adopted a cat from the animal services three days ago, but she hasn't been eating, drinking, or defecating, and we haven't really seen her sleeping either. Her pupils are almost always wide open, her ears are pointed and facing outwards, her tail is stuck to her body and she stays huddled up. She's probably very stressed out, nervous, and scared. If we just as much as look at her she'll get scared. It's really frustrating because all we can do at the moment is to leave her alone and soothe her with gentle words... It's been three days so I'm starting to get worried about her health. Should we consider taking her to the vet for an infusion if she won't eat tomorrow? Or should I keep her at home and wait for her to start eating since a trip to the vet might be too stressful? I've got no clue about her weight since I haven't even touched her yet.

Hi, Actually cats generally take about a week or two to adjust, hence the need to be patient, but at the same time, It is very important that cats eat regularly, the longer your cat goes without proper nutrition, the weaker they become, so it's important to contact your vet if you suspect they haven't eaten in a day or more. Or you could consider force feeding; If a cat doesn't eat for 24-72 hours, you might have to start force feeding. To do this, you'll need to get human baby food from a store or blend cat food into gruel. Thank you
