Dog / Dachshunds - Answered 1358 days ago
I don't know if she's just bad at drinking water, but my dog chokes every time she tries to drink. There was nothing wrong with her at the checkup. I'm worried that she might develop aspiration pneumonia. What kind of water bowl is best for dogs like her? I usually add a little height to a normal water bowl.

Hii. Gianna, hope you and Sakura are doing absolutely fine. Well,Drinking water is supposed to be a relaxing experience. It's a way for your dog to get some hydration and bring down their body temperature. Because dogs don't sweat in the same way that we humans do, they'll often head straight to their water bowl after a long play session outside to cool off. But what happens if that coughing becomes a regular occurrence? Regular coughing after taking a drink is not normal. It could be representative of a serious medical condition. Here are some of the most common reasons why dogs cough after drinking water. 1. Debries in wind pipe, kennel cough, gagging, misshappen trachea and some few other you can google it and get information. But, important thing is, since you have taken her through inspection earlier and you suspect for some drinking water uneasiness , I would suggest you to keep the bowl at her mouth height and don't let her bow down while drinking the water and keep observing. All the best and hoping for her earliest recovery. Thank you.
