Dog / Mix - Answered 1413 days ago
Two days ago I was brushing my dog when I found a bump in his belly right above the penis. It's a soft, 0.5cm × 1cm diamond shaped bump and its color isn't too different from the skin around it. I’m anxious, since Shar is my first dog. It looks a little swollen like an insect bite in humans, though I can't see a scar where he might have been bitten. He doesn't particularly show signs of itchiness. I'm planning on taking him for his first trim tomorrow or the day after, but should I take him to the vet before that?

Hi! Clarie hope you are doing great and your Shar too. Here I would like to say that.. Being a young dog, it is probably a bite or something similar. But, I had a female that had two mammary tumors over a 4 year period, both were cancers. We caught them early. Unlike humans, a dogs mammary tissues sets on top of the muscle. Therefore, removing tumors is fairly simple and hardly any recovery time, but you have to get them early. So anytime you feel or see a bump anywhere near a nipple, get to your vet....we did and our girl lived to be an old dog...! Another possible reason, technically speaking it could be lipoma also.. If possible please add some pictures. Thank you. All the best and hope Shar will be fine as soon as possible.
